About carrot juice and wrestling bunny girls - Getsumen To Heiki Miina Episode 02

21 01 2007

Honestly speaking, I never really had a liking for wrestling, because once I knew that it was all show I didn’t enjoy watching it anymore. Now this Getsumen episode might be able to change my opinion a little bit. That is, if in the future there will be cute bunny girls fighting in the ring, of course. Anyway, I’d like to ask you to get some carrot juice. All set? Okay, lay back and enjoy!

Episode Summary - #02: I love Pro Wrestling! 「プロレス大好き」

A random Pro Wrestling match. Just as one wrestler headlocks the other, some spectator sitting in the front row suddenly screams up and from the inside of his body emerges a fat rabbit wrestler, who jumps onto the ring and wreaks havoc. Of course, Ootsuki Miina is already on the spot, and takes out the enemy without problems. That concludes today’s Spoluna special coverage on yet another alien incident.

After the program, the producer Katou-san and his assistant discuss about the three-minute special that is planned for Saturday’s program, which should report on the legends of Pro Wrestling in the past fifty years. Since no qualified person seems to be available, the producer tells Miina to make the report without further ado. The assistant then takes her to Spoluna’s archive library. Although she doesn’t have the required experience, she still wants to do it. The deadline is the next day already, but Miina says she got her day off school that day so she could work overnight.

While everyone already left the TV station, Escartine remains inside, drinking wine, relaxing in a rose bath, totally availing herself of the food in the office fridge, like a freeloader. Right as she’s raiding the fridge, Miina enters the office with a pile of books. She doesn’t notice Escartine’s presence though and immediately starts working on her report, much to Escartine’s envy.
When Miina opens the copying machine, a surprise awaits her: The flying rabbit-baby pops out from under the scanner. Miina yells at it to hide before someone sees it. Escartine on the other hand thinks that Miina already discovered her and promptly leaves the room.

The rabbit-baby explains to Miina the recent alien happenings. Apparently, there’s an alien civilization in the universe that is totally obsessed with sports. Their members always cause a mess whenever there is a sports event (like those fanboys who run naked over soccer fields for the lulz, for example). Because of them, the Rabbit Force, a fated group of sports-loving girls, has been created to prevent those fanboys from interfering with the events. The rabbit-baby tells Miina that she should drop her life as a TV announcer to become Tsukishiro Miina, but she obviously refuses since she finally was able to fulfill her childhood dream.

The hours pass by, and Miina has a hard time not to fall asleep while researching. Nevertheless, she eventually is able to finish her report. After the hard work, she treats herself to a nice rose bath (like Escartine earlier). In the morning, she falls asleep on her desk. At the same time, the two guys we saw in the school cafeteria in Episode 01 are looking at Miina’s new blog (which does not seem to be hosted at animeblogger.net though XD).

After slandering about Miina’s upcoming performance, Katou D goes to follow the call of nature. But as he sits down on the toilet, he screams…
Meanwhile, Suiren examines Miina’s report and rejects it. She considers the fact that it was Miina’s first task and tells her she should try not to read her whole text loudly in front of the camera and to express herself in her own words.
But due to the lack of sleep, Miina isn’t able to concentrate on her text. As she is heading towards the studio, Escartine hands her the report paper, telling her that it would be embarrassing if she suddenly forgot her text in front of the camera. Miina takes it without second thought, which was a mistake, since that sly Escartine exchanged the scripts.

In the studio, the program is about to begin, and everything seems normal, except that the presence of an oversized Katou D doesn’t really look that normal. The program starts, and Miina shows a lot of self- confidence mixed with nervousness. After announcing her report, she starts reading from her script. And then she notices, aghast, that it actually isn’t her text about Pro Wrestling, but some random notes completely unrelated to sports! At the back of the studio, Escartine already claims victory…
Miina is panicking silently and the staff is getting impatient. But thanks to Suiren, Miina is able to restore her calm; she remembers Suiren’s early advice to express herself in her own words and closes her notebook, then vigorously begins her report. Escartine is fuming.

Miina’s words clearly are stirring up the oversized Katou D, and the assistant finally notices that he is way too different from the real one. Too late, Katou dashes towards Escartine only to dropkick her violently, and then suddenly, that fat rabbit wrestler from last night’s news report emerges from the inside of Katou’s body. Of course, Onoue P, the main producer, decides to stay on air.
I don’t really get what the alien is saying; but I guess it’s about Miina’s report about certain legendary wrestlers. Anyway, Miina runs towards the alien and orders him to leave the studio, since it was her first three- minute special report. While he’s crushing Escartine with some wrestling moves, the alien demands to see Heracles and Dinos but Miina tells him that Heracles already retired and Dinos is dead, but he doesn’t want to believe that. He finally lets go of Escartine and breaks through the studio ceiling.

On the roof, the rabbit is trying to pull off a show (it actually looks like a huge mess) while Suiren and her team are reporting the events. Suddenly, a horde of rabbit clones in flying saucers appears and shoots thunders at Suiren.
Miina finally decides to take action and gets some vegetable juice… Since carrots trigger her transformation to Tsukishiro Miina, she has no other choice but to bit the bullet and drink the juice. Yum!

Right after her transformation, Miina gets to the roof and uses her huge carrot launcher in machinegun mode to oust the flying saucers. The alien strikes her with a Dropkick and cuts back with an Axe Bomber, but Miina brings him down and finishes him with a Rabbit Lock. VICTOLY!

After work, the Spoluna staff celebrates the victory in a restaurant, Escartine wrapped up in bandages as always. Katou D wants to drop Miina’s future three-minute reports but due to the massive popularity it has gained with the alien battle, it will be continued. Yay for Miina! Kanpai!!

Another nice Getsumen episode. I really am fond of this series, despite the occasional nude/jiggle/bounce interjections. But who gives, bunny girls FTW!
Well as I said, I didn’t really get the discussion between the alien and Miina, but I guess I’m not too far off either - of course, please don’t refrain from rectifying me if it’s too inaccurate.

Against my expectations, no new Miina character has made an appearance this week. I guess today was to explain what the aliens are all about, which is quite logical since adding too many characters at once wouldn’t do the story too good. Yet, I have to deplore that Ootsuki Miina didn’t have too much screen time either today. And once again, what the hell is up with those two guys, Kanchi and the other guy with the laptop? They have been totally irrelevant to the plot until now haven’t they? I don’t know. I don’t get why the producers should waste 30 seconds only to have them blabber randomly about Miina’s blog. But then again, maybe they wanted to fill a bit.

Apart from that, the animation was funny as in the first episode, I love Miina’s expressions <3 I laughed a lot at the wrestling moves, especially when that alien came up with Hulk Hogan’s moves. Too bad the fun on the roof ended too quickly, I would have liked to see much more of it.
Escartine? Oh, she can go die in a corner kthxbye. She deserved to be kicked and broken. Geez, if only she was a bit nicer I would like her as well. About the others, well, there’s not much to comment about. I didn’t mention Miina’s parents. Miina’s mother is quite beautiful *giggle* but no I am not implying anything noooooo…
Though, now I wonder what happened to Katou D at the toilet, he just sat on it and then he starts screaming… Later on he is kneeling in front of it… Surprise buttsecks? How dare you think of something like that!…

Anyway. Judging from next episode’s preview, I’d guess next time it will be Soccer, or Tennis, or Volleyball… or any random sport, lol. Will there be a new character? I hope so. Be sure to watch it!

Wow, you have a nice writing style. Nevertheless, I strongly advise you to keep your summary as simple as possible. I gather from your earlier summaries that you give great care for detail, yet you shouldn’t overdo it, since the ones who read this kind of summaries are in general those who already watched the respective episodes and did not understand a few parts.
But who am I to speak. I didn’t watch Getsumen To Heiki Miina and honestly speaking I wouldn’t have planned to do so either. Which already is a contradiction with my point earlier.
After reading your summary, I now think of it as a funny series. I definitely am going to watch it as soon as it’s subbed, and I hope it gets subbed soon =)
Keep it up!

@Penance: Well thank you ^^ About the many details, yeah I thought so myself when I had finished writing, but I really can’t help it, I keep thinking that any detail could be vital to ensure a good reading flow… And, once I start writing I cannot stop, lol. But actually I am more or less trying to improve my English rather than doing a simple summary for the masses. I keep looking up new words, which gradually increases my vocabulary and thus makes writing easier ;) But after rereading the whole thing again, I really don’t know if anyone would try and read it until the end. I guess I should cut back on details after all. Need to find the balance yet so bear with me XD

And no, as far as I know, no group has announced subbing Getsumen yet. Maybe I should go bother AnimeYuki to do it, and I would translate it! Haha ^^

This anime needs so badly to be subbed. Carrots have never been so delicious, if you know what I mean. ;)

Thanks for the review!

Just wondering though…
Where do you get to see the episodes especially when it’s not even available yet, at least not fansubbed, in the States??

@Oetaku: Well, I get the Getsumen Episodes mainly off some Japanese filesharing program called Share (some knowledge of the language is required for using it though). But if I can get them off BitTorrent (on tokyotosho.com for example), the easier ^^;
