Baccano! Episode 4

Episode 4 of Baccano was, as always, interesting, with once again new pieces of the huge story puzzle. Now it looks like a three-dimensional puzzle, since there are many parts of the previous episodes that are shown from a different point of view now.

We all know Ladd from the two last episodes, where he brilliantly showed us his lust of killing people. The big question was, however… Why is he like that? It’s easy. He simply loves killing. Understand that… Well, he loves it so much that he’s doing it for a living; he works as an assassin for the Russo family under the orders of his uncle although he usually only does whatever he wants and does best: killing. Which is also why he is able to kill two of his uncle’s henchmen without any hesitation.
The reason why he is present on the Flying Pussy Foot is (obviously) to kill a lot of people, but also to get some money from the railroad company by taking the surviving passengers hostage, and with his assassin followers he goes to wreak havoc.

Remember that one idiot in the middle of the dining car with the two pistols? Well he’s turned into swiss cheese in no time. Machine guns, serious business. Ladd of course senses the danger and runs to the shooting place. Without a weapon he manages to dominate them all without even getting a stain on his suit. Well… there are some blood stains actually, but those are from the black guy he beat up to a pulp with his fists.
And this whole time, there wasn’t a single consideration for his dead companion, whom he cool-bloodedly just picked up the two revolvers from his hands.

Because I am so confused, here’s a random Miria picture.

Back to last episode’s encounter between Firo/Maiza and Isaac/Miria. This time we follow our funny pair entering the store and getting into yet another pseudo-slapstick situation with the cashier. And then they walk around the city… Hey, has there ever been one occasion where that blonde did NOT agree with Isaac? Not even the slightest bit? She always nods and seconds him. Rawr, so naive! Saying that 87 dangerous situations haven’t been 100 yet sure is an amazing thing to be impressed of, ne, aisaaaakuuuuu~? Yoku wakannai kedo, sugo~i! (I don’t really get it, but it’s amazing~!)

And as they’re dancing on the street, some car incidentally bumps into them. The driver? Ennis, who just drives on; she does a genuine hit-and-run. Since it was in 1930, they probably didn’t know each other at that time yet, so if I remember correctly that takes place before the Flying Pussy Foot incident.
Speaking of which, the Whites and the Blacks (I am referring to the color of their suits) on the train retreated to their own ‘territories’ to plan their further strategies. Seems like Ladd has the best odds, but… seeing his condition in the first episode, he’ll earn himself a nice bashing. So looking forward to that, yummy.
Back to 1930, Quates is visiting some kind of elitist circle, where he announces the completion of his elixir, and Ennis is to pick up Barnes who is in possession of it, and not to hesitate to kill him if he screwed up. And then we’re back to the future (or was it the past now??), where he gets mobbed by the mafia wannabes.

And finally, on the train, there’s a monster lurking about outside the wagon, with blood-stained hands.

Another one, because Miria is just so cute.

Satte to. I’ll be honest, I was lazy. Almost no raws, Baccano somewhat moves on at a slow pace, and I quickly lost interest in it. This draft has also been up ever since I got the raw off Share - however, you already know me, I am da procrastinator, etc blabla, whatever. Now that I have watched this episode again, I don’t really feel the suspense anymore, it’s a bit… meh. The puns aren’t as funny as they used to be, perhaps because I already watched the episode, because I just find them silly now…? Right now, I am lacking the action a little bit, or to be more precise, the order. I probably am repeating myself in every Baccano entry, but we are constantly being tossed around the different scenarios, all taking place at a different place and time - and if you’re a bit careless, or already forgot most of the first episodes (like me, I should need to read my own blog LOL), you easily get lost in the story. Reading from the beginning of my entry, I was used to it at the moment, but yeah, now I need to get back into the mood. Hopefully ep 5 will make things clearer to me…
