Carnival in Venice
nekosasu | February 16, 2009 | 3:13 am“Wonder if I’ll see some anime cosplayers at the piazza”
“Getting cold for me, I’m prolly the only one in all Venice who’s out with only a shirt. No wonder I keep getting funny looks!”
“And I already thought it was because of my ARIA t-shirt I am wearing underneath… ;o;”
“Mc donalds at san marco is full, gonna try burger king at rialto. Also, policemen in almost every street.”
Those were the tweets I sent today by txt, but apparently never reached the tubes of internetshausen. Oh well, anyway here are some photos about the carnival in Venice, which started yesterday and will last for two more weeks.
ZA WARNINGU! There be ~120 thumbnails to be loaded (about 10 MB) so it might take a while if you’re still on dial-up, poor chap. But don’t just leave! Drop me a comment, and tell me I suck for making such shitty thumbnails *kicks natsuneko back into the peanut gallery* Okay, sorry for that.
But before anything else, here’s some pictures from my very, very comfortable room.
And yes, I do pay for such an awesome room. The bed is so hard, it would almost feel better sleeping on the ground. That’s why I prefer placing my dear Hisui towel inside the nightstand. Nooo, it’s definitely not because I’m ashamed to show it to my roommate or anything.
There is also an annoying static noise coming from the fuse box over my bed every 3 minutes, too. I love it. As for other woes, refer to my angst-filled posts from two days ago and before. Either way I’m so glad to be outta there on Wednesday.
Now for some more interesting business. There are comparatively few images, because I shot almost 30 minutes of footage from some kind of carnival celebration at the Piazza San Marco. Can’t be bothered to convert them on this overheating laptop right now, might upload them onto vimeo sometime when I get home.
Besides, as I tweeted thought I was tweeting, I was kinda hoping for a miracle: anime cosplayers. Preferably ARIA. I was partly cosplaying since I had the Aria Company T-shirt showing from under my shirt - why the hell did I even go out like that anyway! The sun was quite hot okay but we’re still in February, WINTER!!! I can call myself lucky if I didn’t catch a cold today, especially since I already caught a slight fever a few days ago.
Oh and no cosplayers. I saw some kid in some Dragon Ball outfit, and a group of teenagers running around in err… Dunno, I’ll just call it Itachi outfit - you know, that guy from Naruto, Sasuke’s aniki… yeah, whatever, you don’t know either. I wanted to take a picture of them, but had the “movie” setting, so I caught a few seconds of on tape as they were walking up the stairs of the Accademia bridge, making lots of noise and whatnot. What the cool shinobi they were, really. Almost makes me want to cosplay too… OOOYAAA, NINJAAA! Kagay UberFail no Jootsoo! Though, on the other hand… no.
Enough chatter. Here are the pics, unsorted because I like batching randomly in Photoshop nowadays.
What I found funny is that even the Police was disguised… no wait, they aren’t? But they still look funny, aw.
There were a few silver dragons moving all about and making eerie, mechanical noises, kinda like witches being burnt alive or something. Creepy, but funny. Also, there was some kind of Miss Maria or Miss Carnival, Maria showcase or whatever, something about “the most beautiful girls in the Venetian region”. I wasn’t that interested in those, though. They weren’t that beautiful either (admit it, you only like azn girls you poor excuse for a weeaboo -natsuneko).
Now that I look at the few photos… Their faces almost look… shopped? Dunno if that’s the side effect of using the digital zoom… But duh. Ew.
Besides, close to the Accademia bridge, there were three quite original musicians, who made music by rubbing glasses with the moist tip of their fingers and blowing into a huge glass ocarina. I so would have recorded that on video, but OF COUSE batteries had to show empty at that moment. And they stopped playing after I put in a new pair of batteries. Was too cold to wait for them to start playing again so I simply took that consolation picture. Really, it was quite awesome stuff there nevertheless. Quite the surreal tones (although not as surreal as the Theremin just yet… lol)
But all in all, there were some nice costumes here and there, and there was a really happy, friendly atmosphere throughout the main places of Venice. And yeah, there was, as is the custom for festival/tourist season, a myriad of people. I think it was worse than last summer during the holidays, heh. I might turn up at Piazza San Marco tomorrow again, to see what’s new. And I want my ARIA cosplayers!
(P.S: And I will dekkai kidnap Aika (or Alice) if I ever see her. MINE!)
(P.S.2: Noticed the small Aria shachou? :D)
(P.S.3: And I need to start Audiosurf yet again, someone keeps dethroning a certain song and I just can’t let it happen… unless he’s a Pusher. Fag.)
(P.S.4: 92k vs 75k, WINRAR IS I!)
(P.S.5: Now I remember, I saw Cait Sith!!! ….kinda. Must be his old relative.)

Venice looks really pretty :)
Is there always that many people out?
@IcyStorm: Read the text? :P Though indeed I never really got to mention that outside from festivities and holidays, Venice isn’t that packed with people. More like lots of students, and single groups on class/business/leisure trip.
And yes, sorry I forgot to mention, I think yesterday was Sunday. ^^
Wow, there are some exquisite costumes in those photos… really. LOL, what’s with the pedo-oinker though.
Those giant birds/dragons are pretty creepy. Wonder what are they for?
Nobody dressed up as Casanova (as in Aria) lol?
um….. i think i will fall out of that bed =.=; that is just way too small for boy…… a “man” can fit in their. Is your roommate above 5.5 feet? i mean, i can see my feet out of that bed…. srry, its just toooo bizarre..
Solais’ (or Will’s, whatever, he’s in the future right now) usual impressions:
“Actually that’s a nice looking room. I was in a smaller room when I was on vacation in Romania.”
“Byuutiful Venezia!!”
“Lol Cait Sith? Oh, no. Too bad.”
“Ok, I think Carnevale = Acid Trip. Really.”
“What the- iron dragon-bird-like-creepy-stuff-from-my-nightmares? ACID TRIP!!”
And that’s all.
Btw, if you find Alice, send her to me. Or I’ll kill ya with my gondola oar! (The most powerful weapon in the universe!)
@RyanA: That guy was really funny, kept grunting all the time while taking photos.
@TJ: I don’t know myself, must have been inspired by some old legends? Because if they wanted to display a mythical animal, they could as well just have used the Lion, as it’s also on the crest of the city of Venice.
@Lua: Well I am about 6″ myself, and the bed is long enough. My bed at home is not much bigger actually, so it’s not much different (although, it’s been over ten years since I didn’t sleep without a wall on either side of the bed… but I haven’t fallen out of bed yet ;) I probably wouldn’t even notice, since it’s almost as hard as the ground, lol)
@Will/Solais: Did you share that room with someone you didn’t know? :P And I’m usually against the use of violence, but if you insist… *takes out the legendary Longinus Oar*
I shared the room with my brother who is bad enough; I rather bear a stranger.
Oh, the Longinus Oar! Let’s see if it can take my Intelligent Device Oar, Reincarnation Three: Carroll.
nekosasu said: “a wall on either side of the bed… ” (O_o”…………………… the position of the bed at your past and future dorm is between walls? WoW!! thats bizarre lol!!.
@Lua: No no no you got it all wrong xD You make it sound like I sleep in a coffin or something! I should have been clearer, what I meant was that I usually always slept on a bed that was placed with the long side against the wall, or in a corner of the room, you know? That’s what I meant with “either side of the bed”: the left side or the right side was usually against the wall, so I could lean myself against it and not fall off the bed for example.
This almost makes me sound like I turn around furiously at night like the Tasmanian Devil, but I’m actually a very calm sleeper. However it did happen ten years ago that I fell out of my bed, but that was partly intentional because I had a dream that went just like that, too.
Erp, why am I even talking about my sleep life now. Ehehe… ._.
I’m a soulless git who’s not interested in festivals anymore…I really, really don’t know why.
I really liked your “quiet” shots though. Nice job trying to fool us that the tower in DSC03288 is straight.

Fairly nice room, but it’s the roommate that makes all the difference. I hope mine’s ok - I really, really like my own quiet space but shared room is of course half price… So you sleep hugging Hisui every night? :P
@X10A, I think I do enjoy them because I haven’t been that much in festivals in my life. I probably need more friends to go out with or something I don’t know. Perhaps I just want to go to an anime con badly, too. Where be my pals? D:
Haha, I actually wanted to take that photo correctly, but I think I still tried to orientate my camera on the tower. Ah well. Should have been more like http://nekosasu.snow-kiss.net/venice/trip3/DSC02748.jpg for instance.
Besides, I never got around to post the pictures and videos about my two november trips here on my blog, but they’ve been online since November already. Check http://nekosasu.snow-kiss.net/venice/ for the pictures (once again thanks to LeviN for the space), and my vimeo page for the videos (namely this, this and this.)
Aaaand, these days I am rather forgetful/lazy so no, I don’t hug her every night. But I try to, and when I do, it’s with utmost love and care, like roners usually do. T_T
Wow, those are some nice pictures, especially the ones taken in the rain, and taken in the rain at night. So beautiful~~.
Lol at gondoliers in jackets.
What is that giant-ass-cardboard on the palazzo?
And the fourth bridge is. Blegh, ugly.
Btw, while this year we’re going to Greece, again (it’s the fourth time, dammit), my parents promised that we’ll go to Italy the next year. Yaay!
I have a T-shirt with Alice on it… >.>
Origination ep5.5 reference! I hate you! :P

Neo-Nazis O_o…
I see you took extra care with Himeya this time. ;)
Self-portrait? :P

You’re worse than Athena with the Gelatos. Good pics are good. The Cardboard I imagine hides the scaffolding behind. The Palazzo Ducale is so spotlessly clean they must scrub it rather often, and the ads fund it - all my speculation. In the Utopic world of ARIA where funding is not needed…ah nvm.
Hey, didn’t noticed the Trip3 folder.
There’s a lots of good pictures, about what could have inspired the murderous calle, the strange staircase, Ferrari store!!, and other.
Ahhh~ Gelato~~~~~ Mine looked like that too, from 8 years ago. Or it was 9?
The fourth bridge looks like some alien spaceship at night.
So that’s you, you look very grown-up. And there’s the towel!
>”In the Utopic world of ARIA where funding is not needed”
Or not shown.
back home guys, didn’t have internet at dorm yesterday so I couldn’t upload pics. will do so tomorrow
@X10A: haha, actually I just wanted to create some mirror effect, because there was another one on the opposite side of the room, so viewed from the right angle, you could watch TV normally on the mirrors. I look awful on that picture anyway. That haircut makes me look so old, ugh.
And Gelato, yes I had one yesterday as well. :3
Hmm…TD20. Taiga has matured a lot…and is sneaky. :P I am impressed.
