Carnival in Venice - Continuation and End of the Dream
nekosasu | February 20, 2009 | 12:39 am“Haha this time I recorded the silver dragons and their eerie noises. A big WTF at those lol”
“D’aww, no internet at dorm tonight. Is this the way they say goodbye here in Italy? ;o;”
“Cool! Paid only 3kg of excess baggage instead of 6kg. Last time was 10kg… Oh well. This is farewell, Italy. Arrivederci? Ah, I give up.”
“That was the hardest landing I’ve ever experienced in my life lol. Even the stewards said ‘wow’ through the interphone.”
Those were the tweets I sent by txt again, but still did never reach the tubes of internetshausen. Weird, a couple of days into Venice and twitter wouldn’t want my txts anymore. Perhaps some gondola-rowing tweet-devouring monster ate them. I dunno.
Anyway! Some more photos about the carnival in Venice, and probably the last pictures of Venice I will upload in a long time now. Because, I now left the city permanently, and am back home. I feel relieved, but also a little sad deep down in my heart. But that’s passé now. “Tatte aruke, mae susume,” someone once said.
But I really am glad to lie down on my own comfy bed and have a good night’s sleep. So good.
ZA WARNINGU (again)! This time there be ~160 thumbnails to be loaded (about 12 MB) so it might take a longer while if you’re still on dial-up. My condolences. But don’t just leave! Drop a comment, say nekosasu sucks for always making such shitty thumbnails *throws a brick at natsuneko* Sorry for that, he’s in a good mood today, heh.
But before anything else, here’s some pictures from my very, very comfortable room.
The Piazza was less cluttered this time, and there were many new faces as well. I found it pretty funny that many were lining up along the border of the river, and I wonder how long they must all have been standing there for. However it allowed some great shots, especially this one pleases me a lot (if it wasn’t for the gondolier in the background though…).
There was this guy in quite an original scorpion-themed dress who had very swift finger skills. As you can see in this picture, he coldly switched from \m/ to 凸… What the evil guy. Hilarious.
Then I thought, “oh, before leaving… I need a Gelato.” Which store sells the best Gelatos in Venice, remember? Of course, La Boutique del Gelato near the Hotel Bruno in the Salizzada S. Lio. However I could not remember the way from the Piazza San Marco, so I walked up all the way to the Rialto, where I immediately found the way I had in mind. Close to the Rialto, there was this guy playing the guitar and singing to it. The only hitch was that both the guitar and his voice were terribly off-tune. Sorry to say but it was so awful, I just had to take a (rather blurry) picture of him. xD Anyway, I soon got my gelato! (fixed the link xD) What was it again… Amarena (cherry), Noce (walnut), Tiramisu and… Yoghurt flavors. Fucking delicious. Truly the best Gelato out there.
At 7 PM I was at Zattere waiting for the Vaporetto, almost returning to Giudecca to the dorm, but then I thought I should return to the Piazza to take a few night pictures. It was the last night I’d spend there too, so I returned. It was a good decision, because I could see those funky silver dragons again, and record their really, really creepy noises. Also the music was quite untypical for carnival, lol.
This picture shows my temporary solution for increasing air flow under the lappie. Thermostat in the room was quite messed up so it got pretty hot at times, quite bad for the laptop, especially when playing Audiosurf at high quality.
Tissues? No problem.
The rest were pictures taken from the vaporetto/bus on my way out of Venice. Now that I watch all of these pictures, I do feel a certain nostalgia of that place, and perhaps even a tiny little bit of regret that I had to leave so soon, but this is really for the best. I am already looking forward to the next time I will return to Venice, maybe in a few years? Who knows.
Until then, goodbye Venice.
Thanks for looking!

Lovely photos. I hope one day I can goto Venice and enjoy the festival atmosphere there.
Nice photos… Why did that guy give everybody the finger?
You just had to stick in a shot of President Aria in there didn’t you lol.
That cooling solution looks familiar…ah, because I use it as well. :P Thermostat in my room’s fucked too! :D I have an Acer too, but it doesn’t overheat.
Feel like uploading a whole pic of the Hisui towel sometime? :P
Hard landing like this? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JLjqB8zhOxU
Loving the quiet pics as always.
@Adun: I hope you can go someday, it’s an unforgettable experience, definitely.
@TJ: Dunno, that guy probably wanted to be cool or something. Not really carnival-like I’d say, but still quite entertaining. A lot of people were laughing, some were a little shocked, others even tried to hide it from their childrens, kekekeke.
And Aria shachou was a must, just because… xD
@X10A: Well mine doesn’t overheat as in fry the processor and motherboard, but I know laptops really don’t like excessive heat so I came up with that solution. I was inspired by the Xpad that was suggested by Kimagurechan after my tweet. It was 28°C in that room at times, even though I set it to 24 °C. Stupid thermostat was stupid.
Oh, you want to see if the towel is still whole? No worries, Hisui couldn’t feel better right now. I treasure her so much, repeated trips to Venice has absolutely nothing on her. :P
Not that of a landing, really. It was only the rear wheels really hitting the runway hard. But it was quite violent nevertheless.

I’m glad you guys all like the pictures, at least my mishap served to advertise for tourism in Venice even more! XD
Updated the post with the evening video of the silver dragons at the piazza!!
Check it out!
Will’s… you know that:
“Gondolas.”
“More gondola.”
“Wow, a Lion-bush!”
“Strange trees from Silvermoon.”
“Creepy alien-eyed mask, brr, Acid Trip.”
“GELATOOOO~~~~~~~~~~”
“Woow, beautiful glowing magic spheres!!!”
“Beautiful decorations, more wonderful at night.”
“LOL”
“Eeek! Those silvery bird-dragons from my nightmare! With creepy sounds! Run!!!!”
Khm. Yeah, I think I would pretty much piss my pants if I would be there at night.
I’m glad, you’re back to your normal, multi-persona self.
“Nothing”? Your secret is safe with me.
Wow, vivid photos make good impression again! Love the gelato :)
*cough* TD21 *cough* Shocking stuff.
Simply gorgeous
I’ve been to Venice before so I’ve seen first hand just how beautiful the entire place is, but I never imagined that the costumes would be that elaborate. It looks like quite the experience.
HI:You took a great photo of me and my husband in our 18th century costumes at night in front of Florian’s. I’m wondering if you could send it to me as a jpg so we can include it in our personal album. It’s hard to get good photos of ourselves in costume so getting this would be really appreciated.
The photos aren’t numbered but the one I’m referring to is 11 rows from the bottom - I am in the burgundy gown and my husband is in a black coat with gold on it (the photo next to us on the left has a lot of blue).
Thanks so much!
Faye
@Faye: Gladly! I sent it to you, hope you’ll enjoy it! Gorgeous costumes btw ;)
