Catching up to: Basquash!

BASQUAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAASHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!
BASQUAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAASHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!

BASQUAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAASHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!

I was right, that name is meant to be screamed out loud. :D

One week after watching the first episode, I couldn’t wait to catch up to this outstanding anime. Back then it already had given me a great first impression, and I was eager to find out if it could keep that level of quality up. It did, a million-fold - no, 5.3 billion-fold! (Wow, re-reading this stuff makes me realize how full of praise I am for this anime. Crud.)

Well, that’s me currently being in a post-episode 7 frenzy after witnessing yet another epic moment of greatness. In retrospective, this anime is all about being epic. Fast-paced, extremely exaggerated, and loud: that is the recipe to make even the dullest anime watcher enthrall in enthusiasm. And Basquash! does it perfectly with its original story, genial characters, and mindblowing animation.

BASQUAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAASHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!
BASQUAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAASHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!

It’s quite a stretch to go from “bakasuka” to “Basquash” but fine! Sounds awesome, especially when SCREAMED!!

Once you’re tuned into this anime, you’re immediately dragged into this incredibly fast paced action, and the captivating suspense is renewed with every minute of it. You simply have no time to think about what just happened, because the next thing is already in full gear! Dan meets maso-Sela, they both have a minor trifle, and then “DESTROY” Iceman already appears! And once they’re getting to the real stuff, “Getsumen Bust” Haruka appears, swiftly creates some overdimensioned Nike shoes for the Bigfoots [1] and schedules a showdown - the Bigfoots are refurbished, and before they realize it, the rivals are already teammates against some other urban team. Basquash is born, suddenly the entire city is covered in those bouncy stickers, and it is already said that all of our main guys are said to compete against BFB all-star players in a new league organized by Moonspeople.

Chaining a quick succession of events is not a new concept; however, where other stories overwhelm you with boring information and/or excessive action, Basquash! knows when to pull the brakes, and adds some little timeouts here and there, translated into short introspective moments, flashbacks, or simply sketch comedy/slapstick. Those little breathers very often catch you in an excited state, so even the stupidest sceneSeriously, this wasn’t that funny, but I still sniggered like a child. will make you laugh, nya nya nyaCome here my little kittens, papa will give you some ‘milk’.! For instance, I who am so adamantly against fanservice, actually find Haruka’s jiggly globesBianca and Kate, eh? I’m sure they’ll ruin Haruka’s back in a few days. hilariousProbably the softest foot massage you’ll ever receive., and don’t mind Sela’s masochistic tendenciesI’d love to give her my genes. when she’s being trodden aroundI’d foul her, if you catch my drift.. Goes to show how much a great ambiance can make you change for half an hour.
Add to this the awesome soundtrack which often hits the spot at the right moment: especially in episode 7, they omitted the opening so they could showcase it exactly during the most epic event to date: Dan refusing the diamonds, the entire world behind him, and declaring war against OCB. I almost got the chills.

Do count the times I said 'epic' in this post.
Count the times I said 'epic' in this post. Too often? I swear I could have placed it in every single sentence. Note the Nike shoes in this screen.

Count the times I said “epic” in this post. Too often? I swear I could have placed that adjective in every single sentence.

I do see a small problem with this constellation, however. By raising the epic bar higher and higher every episode, there might be a moment where it just won’t be able to reach that mark anymore. I mean, so far, the level of epicness was in a steady ascension, but there is this instant of sobriety after watching an episode where you can hardly imagine that the next one will be able to surpass it even further. So far, it has not disappointed even once, but what now?
After declaring war on OCB, what will the Basquashers do? As it stands, the ultimate boss so to say is James Lone and his hidden moon team (with that Slash girly boy). Will the next 6 episodes now be about our guys crushing the BFB stars all the way up to the top? Or will some even darker plot reveal itself by then? Ahh, I can’t wait.

But in the meantime, I’ll gladly rewatch these few episodes. Besides, Sela and Flora are my absolute favorites. SelaSela’s are definitely not this big. I blame buoyancy. because she’s simply cute (and she likes it very roughI’d three in the key her, if you catch my drift., hmhm), and Flora because she’s a fine loli, and she’s quite sportyConsidering that she barely could play it a few days before. And she still qualified!, picked up Basket pretty fast. Pretty unexpected for an ojousama.

Dan still can't do a proper slam dunk, that hot-blooded noob.
Dan still can't do a proper slam dunk. But I bet loli Flora got that in her repertoire already. Mhm, I'd dunk it in her basket, too.

Well, there goes Basquash! More mid-season reviews to follow soon, stay tuned~

wow, you actually liked this show…… =_=” i am intrigued
dropped this show because i thought Dan is “noise”. Always shouting, arrogant, sis complex, and most noticeably, needs anger management real DESPERATELY. But then again, we all have tastes and as for you, you like this show and no one can do anything about it.

Caught up through 8. Damn, this series has a lot of magic working for it. There’s a lot to offer, so many angles to play with, but the action and noise bleeds it all out to where it doesn’t really matter if a detail plays out or not… so far they’ve been great about fleshing enough info for the details present, but there is still quite a bit of mystery that needs addressing. 18 more episodes… it’s going to be so fun.

Love the characters, though Dan can get annoying, but not always… he’s just sooo extreme loool.
