Well, as you can already figure out from the title, I haven’t done much on this blog these past few days - as expected, I won’t be able to focus on it until I’m done with Venice. Of course, with my departure being only 2 days and 7 hours away, I’m so eager to arrive there and to fulfill one my dream of visiting Venice. I just hope the weather won’t be as bad as it has been all day here, the rain has started and stopped at least 7 times today, and right now it’s pouring as well… Meh, I want at least one day of blue sky in Venice.

But before I start digressing (this is, of course, only a filler post), I’ll get straight to the main content.

I probably enjoy laughing and slandering about those bootlegs as much as you do - unless you have been victim of buying bootlegged stuff, then I pity you. There are uncountable numbers of bootlegs out there it’s not even funny BUT, there are always some rare pearls that deserve to be highlighted for a major amount of lulz. An IRC friend of mine browsing /a/ showed this to me minutes ago and I just couldn’t stop laughing at it. You might know it already, it might be at least 100 years old, but I still thought it worth sharing. Here it is:

It is astonishing how much imagination those bootleggers can have. The name and the description sure are… “original”. New Century Sky Hawkfighter, I think that’s a new entry in my “bootleg-English” dictionary for Neon Genesis Evangelion. Seriously, this is hilarious. ^^

P.S.S.S. Did I forget to mention that I was bored enough to start watching Code Geass? Meh, I just wonder what’s in ep 13 that makes everyone BAWW and YIFF about. I’m about to see it for myself soon anyway… zzz

…and it’s no other than Gonzo themselves.

Following this article, new Gonzo anime will be made available online by GDH, on the same day of their airing on TV in Japan.

The new titles, the Tower of DRUAGA -the Aegis of URUK- and BLASSREITER, will be available on YouTube, Crunchyroll and BOST TV, with English subtitles. I suppose this kind of Youtube service will remain free of charge, while the other two will provide higher quality videos for a small fee, depending on the situation.

This measure is said to counter the propagation of pirated anime files that have been circulating on the internet, known under the more common name of “fansubs”. It is to grant access exclusively for overseas viewers to legally view anime as soon as they are broadcasted in Japan.

Honestly speaking, I do not think this will be a very popular measure, albeit the legal aspect of the offer might seem attractive to some. Also, I highly doubt that Gonzo or GDH are going to put up with the trouble of translating all of their future animes in proper English. Furthermore, I cannot imagine such releases having a nice typesetting either, at least not at the same level we know from decent fansubbing groups.
The biggest problem with this, is that their solutions mainly provide anime over streaming platforms, and I guess that is the point where most leechers would resort to the traditional fansubs, to download and archive anime. I highly doubt sites other than Youtube will make those episodes available for download, because, who would eventually buy Gonzo’s DVDs then?

On the contrary, it might even help most fansubbers (especially the translators) to speeden up their work - since they already get a draft of the script by watching those subtitled versions, they might complete their work much much faster. So perhaps this marks the beginning of a new speedsub era?

I am pretty eager to know if this measure will be successful or not, and if there will be more anime producers who will follow soon too.

Boredom.

Le Sigh Deluxe. I was sitting at the university in that empty computer room for 2 hours, almost dozing off on the keyboard. How did that happen?

Oh yeah. I was totally oblivious to the fact that today’s course started at 11.45 AM and not at 10 AM. And since I usually arrive there at 9.30… -_-…

However, I guess that thing also had its advantages. Since I had no sources of distraction whatsoever there at the university (no anime, no lolis, no games), I actually spent some time thinking about my blog and stuff. You know, the basic things that everyone except me manages to do on their blog with ease.

Intrigued by this quite hilarious pic, I hit google and the first news I see comes from ANN: Click Me!

Delectable! So the virus is spread over popular Japanese P2P applications like WinNY, Share (and perhaps Perfect Dark), and apparently deletes data happily from the hard drive while showing you that cute picture of Kyou.

I’ll let you do the commenting xD Hope that someone makes an anime out of that someday.

In other news, I have yet to watch the newest Spice sub, and am totally eager to watch Aria the Natural. Also got my Ciel figurine today after fucking up my exam this morning, but I’ll post later about all of this ^^

Earlier in some IRC channel came up the discussion about how Formula (a fansub group) decided to cut the Opening and Ending on their Shugo Chara releases. I thought that might trigger an interesting discussion if it hasn’t been discussed yet.
Note that I haven’t watched Shugo Chara yet so I will not even talk about it - it is just the example - nor am I criticizing Formula because of their choice; I am just trying to compare the pros and cons of this matter.
