neko and anime
I started watching anime about 6 years ago where a friend of mine gave me a CD with subbed FLCL eps. I always had a hidden weakness for anime but only knew the (mediocre) series that aired on German TV (Pokemon, Digimon, Sailor Moon, etc…). I didn’t have internet at home at that time, so that same friend got me Trigun, NGE, Noir, Fruits Basket, Azumanga Daioh, and many others later on. I got addicted in no time. Soon I got ISDN, and I still remember waiting over 8 hours to download the newest Stellvia, Onegai Twins or Spiral eps at incredible 7 KB/s, awesome! Now, DSL helps me to increase my anime collection, which amounts to 195 burned DVD as of today - I only did watch about 25% of it all.
As the years passed by, I started picking up interest into Japanese and slowly but steadily got closer to the language. Someday around summer ‘05 I started translating anime (I sucked, and still suck at doing a fast and reliable translation. But I haven’t had any Japanese courses yet so… yeah. Bear with me). And then it happened. Since spring 2006 I was on a halt with anime, oversaturation killed the fun, and I had other things to worry about at that time, school, holiday work, family problems, etc. Actually, I nearly stopped all online activity except chatting with friends and browsing /b/ (y helo thar). I kept downloading many series, and burned them all down without watching them. It is only recently that I was able to rewatch anime, during one of my intense procrastination sessions I realized that all this time I had literally been wasting time and that I that time would be lost forever… and since my schedule gets tighter with finals, and then maybe university and stuff, I sort of forced myself to do something about it. I started watching watch Pumpkin Scissors and Code Geass - and I immediately got back into business.
Things paced up, I’m picking up new series, and watching old ones I missed (Utawarerumono for example). I was even able to finish my Rozen Maiden wallpaper (~desu) I had been working on for about half a year. I barely play CS:S anymore but then again I’m not missing it at all (my clan does miss me though…). And then the blog…
neko’s blog
Well, I never considered starting my own blog but I somehow felt like talking but didn’t know how to vent my feelings. Because I love to talk. Lots. At least online, since I’m a very silent person IRL. Well anyway, I was sorting out my anime during some procrastinating phase and googled around to find fansub comparisons. I found myself reading different blogs, and read some comments, and felt like replying but never really could add them replies because once I start writing, I cannot stop. And then I thought, “why don’t I just start my own blog, and link back to it?”. Also, since I just started watching anime as well, it would be a great source of motivation to share my own thoughts with the rest of the world. So I created a blogger account (View my old blog) which I wasn’t very happy with though. After one week I already had been thinking of settling down at AnimeBlogger; I remembered that many blogs looked quite professional and I wanted to have a blog like that as well. Applied to maestro, and got my account set up 3 days ago. And all this time I spent day and night modding the theme, applying plugins, messing with php, making banners, etc. This is the outcome, and I hope you like it ^^
